BCIA:Internet Era Creates Great Development in the Future
Released:2015-08-26    Visitors:

With the popularization and rapid development of the Internet, mass data collection, transmission and processing have become more convenient and gradually made the development of big data a new subject for forecasts and decision making. “Internet Plus” is the integration of the Internet and traditional industries as well as the process of remodeling traditional industries into new industry modes with the Internet property. Big data and the development of Internet supplement each other. Meeting new era development opportunities, Beijing Capital International Airport (BCIA) will gradually apply big data and “Internet Plus” thinking to operations, tourist services and business management so as to build a smart airport with characteristics of the Internet era.

Internet Era Makes Production More Efficient

BCIA has an annual passenger throughput capacity of over 80 million persons, involving more than several hundreds of information systems. BCIA has gradually completed the construction of three “clouds,” namely core production cloud, business management cloud, and development and test cloud, based on safety and service levels since it introduced cloud computing in 2013. Among them, the core production cloud is a leading cloud computing platform in the civil aviation industry, on which many core production systems like integrated systems and security-check systems are running; the business management cloud carries BCIA’s auxiliary business management systems; and the development and test cloud bears BCIA’s all development and test systems.

By building the “three clouds”, BCIA has gradually changed the existing airport operation mode, completed the transition from scattered system management to centralized and automated one, introduced the dynamic allocation, deployment and resource recovery system, and realized automatic installation and loading of software and application programs. Besides, BCIA has halved two original system maintenance personnel and driven up the emergency disposal efficiency of systems by nearly 0.5 order of magnitude and data storage level from TB to PB, laying solid data foundations for further data disposal and analysis.

Internet Era Makes Services More Convenient

BCIA has been attaching great importance to the improvement of tourist service quality. In April 2015, BCIA set up China’s first WeChat-based smart service demonstration airport in partnership with WeChat. Based on the WeChat public platform and WeChat Pay, BCIA has teamed up with nearly 200 merchants and stores in the business circle to provide convenient payment methods for tourists and improve their consumption experiences. A seven-day large-scale promotional campaign pushed BCIA’s WeChat smart service initiative to a new high. Recently, BCIA introduced a smart interaction platform when carrying out its “Dream Journey—Shaking” campaign, once again demonstrating the organic integration with “Internet Plus”.

In June 2014, BCIA conducted a survey on sharing a taxi with other passengers on its website. More than 70% of the interviewees said that they are willing to share a taxi with others. Thereupon, BCIA launched a mobile app called “rainbow way” and introduced the concept of mutual assistance mobility and oil cost sharing, which further alleviate the difficulty in hailing a taxi in rush hours so as to ensure tourists’ safe and smooth mobility.

BCIA also introduced the No. 3 terminal accurate positioning system, the airport map service system and a series of new tourist service technologies based on “Internet Plus” and big data.

Internet Era Makes Management More Refined

Heinrich's Law has been regarded as a classic in safety management work. The rule points out that there are numerous safety risks behind every accident. What is called “A small discrepancy leads to a great error.” Every safety risk may trigger unsafe incidents and even safety accidents if it’s not controlled. The primary purpose of safety management work is to reduce accidents, and identify safety risks in advance and make effective control.

With the Internet thinking, BCIA also held a campaign, allowing employees to report potential safety risks on the apron, terminal, parking buildings and surrounding roads via the WeChat public platform. The office receiving information would partner with relevant divisions to check, evaluate, control them and give feedback. The seemingly unimpressive initiative has brought huge changes to BCIA’s risk management work.
